Sony F65 and TV

As I discover more and more support for IDT’s and an overall ACES compliance from multiple manufactures I tend to want to start working this way on the regular. ACES is quickly becoming part of our life in post and it’s about time we all start to understand it more but that’s for another post entirely. What i wanted to mention quickly was another way to work in TV world with the F65. Sony pushed ACES workflow but it’s not the only way to go when using this camera. IN fact when working strictly on TV series it may not actually even be a good idea. When your doing a weekly series and you need to move thru post fast the F65 allows for a sidekick adapter that allows recording file based media using the SR codec. Yes essentially the same SR we all know in the HDCAM world. A typical mastering format for TV. The Sony SR-R4 allows capture of file based SR files straight onto SR memory cards. Many flavors are available as in the chart below but if you take a look it at the 4:2:2 YCbRCr flavor you will see that this provides pretty much what we need to hit broadcast output and with a nice easy way to ingest and work with. Some speedy drives and using the AVID AMA SRPA-10 available here and your off and editing. In terms of finishing both Baselight and DaVinci Resolve support these SR codec’s so this is really just as simple as any other Pro-Res or DNxHD worlkflow.
